Join composers Diego Golombek and Mariano A. Fernandez for a live excerpt of their opera "Darwin en Patagonia" followed by a lecture about the evolution of the work.
The hour-long Spanish-language opera follows Charles Darwin and the crew of the H.M.S. Beagle on their five-year journey around the world. The piece examines Darwin's interactions with the people and landscape of Patagonia, revealing the historical implications of his ideas about evolution.
Golombek and Fernandez will talk about the opera's journey from a staged reading at the Centro Cultural de la Cienca in Buenos Aires, Argentina to a fully staged production at Yale.
With:
Diego Golombek, National University of Quilmes
Mariano Fernandez, Associate Research Scholar in Latin American Studies
Moderated by Dr. Eduardo Duque-Fernandez, Professor of Anthropology and Yale School of the Environment
